This week, I absolutely loved the opportunity to lead a poetry workshop for English Heritage in the J W Evans Silver Factory in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The factory worked from the mid-nineteenth century until 2008. The dust of decades lies there undisturbed. Hundreds and hundreds of silver moulds are stacked on towering shelves. Lightweight, teetering piles of silver parts for candlesticks, jugs and teapots, wait to be soldered.
The group were a lovely bunch, who brought rich experiences and local knowledge to their writing. Here we all are at work, and with some of the tiny poetry books created by the end of the session.
We plan a second poetry workshop in September!
