I’ve started work on this exciting summer residency in Oswestry, alongside a wonderful group of artists – Joseph Schneider, Emma Cummings and Paul Bohanna. ART-efact has been created by the marvellous Holly Maries, in partnership with the collections and archives at Oswestry Town Museum in the Guildhall. Funding has come from Arts Council England and Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ).

We are meeting regularly, exploring the riches of the Oswestry Archives and the Museum. Just at the moment I’m deluged in fascinating stories, from the origins of St Oswald’s Well, to the municipal approach to Destitute Wayfarers, to a Celtic horse goddess found on a boulder up on Old Oswestry, to the treasury of language, Welsh and English, to be found in the house names, fieldnames and street names of this border town.
I’ve been for long walks, taken photographs, started writing.

It’s fascinating to see what the others are finding and creating, and we look forward to possible collaborations, and workshops in the town at Qube and Designs in Mind.
